Two Filipino game studios to represent PH in the Global Top Round (GTR) Conference

Two Filipino game development studios will represent the Philippines and showcase their games to the Global Top Round (GTR) Conference in Busan, South Korea this September 9 and 10.

Keybol Games and ThinkBIT Games clinched the two top spots during GTR’s 2019 Southeast Asia Pre-Acceleration program, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand last June 17 to 28.

Winners were then announced on June 28 where both the Filipino studios claimed the 1st and 2nd place, respectively. They are joined by Malaysian game studio Aeonsparx Interactive in the 3rd spot.

Keybol Games showcased “Jack Axe”, a 2D game that lets you explore the colorful open world inspired by Filipino and Norse mythology, as per a report from GMA News.

The main character of the game is Jack Axe who has an axe as his weapon where he uses it to either break walls, pound an enemy or use it for flying.

If you want to play it with a friend, the game offers multiplayer co-op where his sisters will emerge as the other characters of the game.

ThinkBIT, who placed second, showcased their “Brawl Quest” game. It’s a game that you can download on your Android phone that features 2D graphics like the character Luwan and other diverse range of characters. You need to beat the opponents in the game before you can move on to the next level. The game is inspired by the classic arcade games like “Streets of Rage”, “Double Dragon”, and “Golden Axe”.

Both studios received cash prizes, travel and accommodation subsidy and discounts on GTR’s G.Round game marketing research platform.

In September, they will join the other 18 studios where their games will be evaluated by the GTR core team. The top 10 best studios that will be chosen will be eligible to join the GTR acceleration program.

The top 10 game studios will receive an initial $40,000 investment and a ticket to participate in the 6-month global acceleration program where they will be provided with game development support, global publisher exposure, fundraising assistance and among others.
