26 Dubai OFW couples tie the knot in group wedding

DUBAI: The air was thick with joy and excitement as 26 couples – overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) – tied the knot in a group wedding at the Philippine Consulate on Thursday, officiated by Vice Consul Marianne Bringas.

Most OFWs said they were happy to finally be with their special someone following years of being apart, living a life of a long distance relationship that, in the end, proved fruitful.

“Matagal kaming magkawalay. Nauna kasi ako dito sa Dubai,” said one female OFW who requested to have her name withheld.

Every week, group weddings are being held at the consulate in Dubai and the embassy in Abu Dhabi. The number of couples getting wed average at 25, making it a hundred OFW couples a month and – you do the math, how many each year.

Couples need to meet requirements among which include documentation on parental consent and that each are not married back in the Philippines.

Here are some vids of the wedding.
