DUBAI: Some 26 couples, all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) tied the knot and exchanged vows during a group wedding at the Philippine Consulate officiated by Deputy Consul General Renato N. Dueñas, Jr., a day after UAE celebrated the 121st anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day.
Dueñas, speaking from the podium, reminded the couples about the requirements of getting married to which the love birds seemed very much aware of.
There were also cases of couples having endured long distance relationships for as many as six years before finally being able to tie the knot – this being such one had remained in the Philippines for some time.
Some 25 OFW couples get married at the consulate every week; the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has around the same numbers.
