Pinoy students ‘space suit’ concept wins gold in Turkey

Manila: Ten Filipino students bagged the top prize in an international robotics contest in Turkey, showcasing with solutions on how to address long-duration space flight.

Project Mu.S.C.A bythe Philippine Robotics National Team made of 10 students and two coaches from Dr. Yanga’s College Inc., won the highest honor in the competition.

The suit’s concept seeks to help astronauts in avoiding having musculoskeletal problems and preventing bone loss due to microgravity.

Gwyneth Sabusap,Andrea Luz Guevarra, Nicole Flores, Aaron James Amar,Shervie Dela Cruz, Daniella De Guzman, Annette Nicole Gabriel Ortega, Michael Ronnie Estrella, Renz Daren Flaviano proposed a suit that monitors pulse rate and maintains the astronaut’s posture. There is also a need to massage the body to keep body temperature.

The coaches who helped the students are Assistant coach RV Mendoza, and coach Romyr Gimeno.

The Department of Sciencr and Technology (DOST) hopes that this will be the first step in exploring and increasing interest in studying the outerspace.

Senators in the 17th congress have passed a bill creating the Philippine Space Agency.
