OFW from UAE goes home for Eid al-Fitr

DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao, Philippines – A computer technician working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had his prayers heard as his employer granted his request to be with his wife for Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Just after attending the Sallatul Eid in commemoration of the Edl’s Fitr or the end of Ramadan, vehicles loaded with family members and friends flocked to fill the coastal area in this part of Bangsamoro region for the festivities.

Among them is Mokar Taja, 24.

“This how we celebrate with family and friend, our way of thanksgiving, a gathering and sharing moments with our love ones”, said Taja.

Moktar is an overseas worker from this region and he got home on the second week of May to spend Ramadan in his native land, Maguidanao.

“There is no other place like home. I’m just lucky my superiors granted my request, my begging to spend Ramadan here with my wife,” he said.

Moktar left Philippines in the last week of December 2018, two weeks after his wedding. He got his job in UAE as a computer technician handling software and hardware computer works.

“What I prayed this Ramadan before I come back two weeks from now to UAE is to have a gift a baby from Allah,” Moktar said, adding that his short stay with family has comforted him from separation anxieties.

Other Muslim tribes like those in Marawi have set their celebrations of Ramadan on Tuesday, June 4, celebrating together with Saudi Arabia.
