Plantable pencils, anyone?

With school opening soon, parents are on the hunt for bargain supplies.

This year, they have an option to contribute to environment conservation.

A start-up company in Cebu is offering pencils that have seeds on its tip instead of an eraser.

Eco Hub is offering plantable pencils through its Facebook page and an outlet in Cebu city.

Based on the company’s Facebook post, the available seeds are: basil, carrot, chili pepper, citronella, mint, sunflower, and tomato.

So, after using up the pencil one can save the tip and plant the seed in an area of your choosing.

“This gives it a new lease on life. Instead of being thrown away, the plantable pencil becomes a symbol of sustainability,” the company said in one of its posts.
