Pictures capture tales of struggle of Filipino migrant workers

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) serve as the backbone of our economy with billions of remittances that keep it afloat. However, their families and the migrant workers themselves bear the brunt of the heavy social costs of migration.

A picture shared by a daughter of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) captured the sacrifices of millions of our fellow Filipinos all over the world.

Bhea showed this through a photo she posted on social media. Her family is seen celebrating the birthday of her OFW father.

They prepared a feast in their home in the Philippines with several dishes all for the absent birthday celebrator.

However, another photo tugs at heartstrings of many netizens. The photo shows her father, who prepared for his own birthday a cup of instant noodles, a can of tuna, and a loaf of bread with a lit candle in lieu of a cake.

“Handa namin sa birthday ni Papa vs. Handa niya,” she captioned the photos, adding that, “Grabe learn to appreciate talaga mga sacrifices ng OFW parents.”

After her tweet went viral, she shared a message that she received from her father.

“Bhea, basta cool lang kayo, kaya natin yan. Mga pangyayaring dumadaan lang, pero malalagpasan din. Cool ka lang, ako pa,” her father said.
