NMC’s Walk of Life to unite communities on raising awareness against cancer

The UAE will soon be the venue for a huge global campaign to raise awareness and fight against cancer as NMC Healthcare, in collaboration with the UAE’s Cancer Patient Care Society (CPCS) – Rahma will organize the Walk of Life.

The free event is set to take place at Um Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi this coming April 5, Friday, from 4:00 pm onwards.

In its second edition, the Walk of Life continues to encourage the UAE community to come together, raise awareness and support the noble cause.

HOD of Medical Oncology at NMC Healthcare Dr. Mohanad Diab said that this year’s edition follows the success of their Dubai leg last year in partnership with St. Mary’s church, Red Crescent and Dubai Municipality that was attended by more than 8,000 participants.

“It is a free of charge event and everybody is welcome to join families and friends, just don’t forget to bring one thing – a big smile on your face!” said Dr. Diab.

For patients who have cancer, NMC Healthcare is already doing its part through its Center of Excellence for Cancer care. NMC Vinoda provides full-fledged Cancer Care Centre using a unique multi-specialty approach with a full spectrum of diagnosis and medical as well as surgical management of all types of cancers.

“Furthermore, we also provide services and information to help cancer patients receive information about cancer, while also educating the community regarding the types, causes and prevention of cancer. We also aim to provide psychological support to patients both during and after treatment,” said HOD of Medical Oncology at NMC Healthcare Dr. Mohanad Diab

Cases of Filipinos who have cancer in the UAE

NMC reports that there are 4,500 new cancer cases officially registered in UAE. “That is 12 new cases every day and out of that number, 60% are Filipinos,” shares Dr. Diab.

The consultant medical oncologist at NMC Healthcare also said that those who will be joining the NMC Walk of Life will not only be supporting their loved ones who are afflicted by the condition, it would also help those who are unaware of their condition to get themselves checked through this information awareness drive: “The psychological support is not only for the patient but also for their families, we are also extending our assistance to raise awareness for the community.”
