Are you a coffee addict with a penchant for travel? For hardcore coffee persons, the first place that will come to mind when it comes to good brew and holiday destinations would include either Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Vienna, Austria; Milan, Italy; São Paulo, Brazil; Istanbul, Turkey; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Seattle, Washington, USA.
All these cities have one thing in common: coffee is an integral part of their culture and lifestyle.
But if you are looking for the ultimate coffee travel experience, you should now include Tokyo, Japan on your bucket list.
Why? Starbucks has opened its largest roastery in the world in Tokyo.
It is basically coffee lovers’ dream come true. Or let’s say it’s 32,000 square feet of “heaven on earth.”
The giant roaster is four storey tall and plans to serve 100 unique types of coffee, tea, and cocktail beverages… and we all know how Japanese are known to be perfectionist when it comes to their craft and tradition.
It has a 55-foot tall coffee cask – the largest in any starbucks in the world. This will enable the supersized location to roast almost 750 tons of coffee annually. The cask spans all four floors and is decorated with copper cherry blossoms.
The Roastery is located in the Nakameguro neighborhood in Tokyo, next to the Meguro River. Its glass walls design give visitors a perfect view out to the river, while the light-toned wood is sourced from Japanese forests.
The menu? Well, let’s say it transcends that of the average Starbucks shop. The giant coffee shop serves drinks such as Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew, the Melrose Tokyo, and the Pop’n Tea Sakura Jasmine.
It is also home to the largest Teavana Bar in the world, featuring tea-centric drinks such as the Golden-Sky Black Tea Latte, which is topped with turmeric cotton candy.
