OFWs share their personal experiences during Valentine’s Day

As OFWs living in the UAE, Valentine’s is one of the many occasions that you’ll be lucky enough to spend with your loved one if they’re here with you in the UAE. Otherwise, it might just be another regular day that will pass.

This is why OFWs think of different ideas and ‘diskartes’ to make sure that they still manage to celebrate their Valentine’s to let their special someone feel that they’re loved not just during Valentine’s Day, but all year round.

Here are their stories.

The most memorable for me was last 2016 our first romantic Valentine’s date as a husband and wife.

As per them: Hindi talaga nila cini-celebrate ang Valentine’s day kasi araw-araw sa kanila ay Valentine’s. Masaya na ako makita lang silang masaya. Ika nga, “There is only one happiness in life: To love and to be loved.”

To be honest, I have never experienced na makipag date or i-date nang Valentine’s day, or even have someone ask me on a date or receive a special delivery nang flower with matching chocolate. Hopefully this coming Valentine’s it would be memorable and special.

Last 2015, back in my hometown, with my girlfriend Kierstine, we had this dinner at an Old West Cowboy concept restaurant and a museum at the same time. One thing that makes this place so unique, because most of their waitress/servers and cook in the kitchen are deaf and mute which really gives a good opportunity for them. Anyway, we both really had a good time and she was amazed and happy, and for me that’s EVERYTHING. And one last thing that’s really memorable for me on Valentine’s Day. Last year 2018, as I am already working here in Abu Dhabi, and we are one of the many “LDR” Relationships, I bought her red roses and Make-ups and other stuffs like lipsticks and foundations which really was quite not a normal thing for me to do. Go the mall and ask what is good, or which isn’t. But really it was all worth it, because she was really happy about it. If she’s happy, I am more than happy. And that’s really something memorable that had happened to me. Happy Valentine’s Day, share a smile and spread the love to everyone!

One of my memorable stories during Valentine’s is yung kami lang dalawa ng mother ko ang nag d-date kasi as unica hija special daw po yung mother-daughter bonding namin. This 14th, I will be having a special date as well kasama naman ang better half ko.
