What will happen to your body if you start eating three eggs a day?

Whether it’s boiled, fried, scrambled, poached, or mixed with other ingredients, egg is always at the dining table of Overseas Filipino Workers in the UAE since it only costs around Dh1 or Dh2. Cheap, isn’t it?

Now, let’s assume that you eat eggs three times a day — one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. How would it affect your body?

Many people, especially those who are health conscious, say that having too much eggs is a day is not good since it can cause weight gain and high cholesterol which can trigger heart attack.

There’s no ‘egg-xageration’ though: egg is one of the most nutritious foods on the planet as it contains a variety of precious vitamins and minerals, according to health experts.

A single egg contains the following:
– Calories
– Protein
– Healthy fats
– Folate
– Calcium
– Zinc
– Phosphorus
– Selenium
– Vitamin A
– Vitamin B5
– Vitamin B12
– Vitamin B2
– Vitamin D
– Vitamin E
– Vitamin K
– Vitamin B6

Another misconception about eggs is that people should avoid eating the yolk for its cholesterol content. However, cholesterol found in eggs is not as bad as how it is portrayed. According to Fitness and Power, cholesterol is “a structural molecule that is an essential part of the cell membrane – of every single cell in the body.” It helps with digestion and Vitamin D production, and is important for the normal functioning of the body.

“Our body produces its own cholesterol in the liver. And when we eat foods that are rich in cholesterol the liver simply starts producing less of it, so the total amount of cholesterol in the body changes very little, depending on our diet,” the source states.

According to the American Heart Association, there are actually two kinds of cholesterol, namely the High-Density Lipoproteins (HDL) and the Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDL).

The LDL are the ones that produces thick deposits that clog the arteries, while the HDL is the “good” cholesterol that helps remove the LDL cholesterol from the arteries by carrying it back to the liver. The LDL then get broken down in the liver and passed away from the body, protecting the heart’s health.

Egg is also rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, also called as Healthy Fats, which can improve your heart, reduce blood pressure levels, and decrease clotting in your arteries. Hence, they don’t actually contribute to heart diseases.

Some of the benefits of eating eggs daily include healthier way of losing weight, improved vision, stronger bones, prevention from iron deficiency, and a more active mind.

So, eating three eggs a day is not entirely bad. It is considered safe to add it as a staple food item to your diet as it can play a part in keeping your body healthy.
