Funny Pinoy homemade advert goes cyber-bananas

The Filipino humor is at it again. This time, making itself known in an all-time Filipino favorite afternoon snack, the banana que.

In a viral post credited to a certain Maria Maria, the humble yet tasty and filling skewered banana is seen advertised as “New Saging w/ Banana flavor for only Php 6”.

The redundancy is so silly that it actually works as a catchy and amusing marketing stunt. It is a refreshing flight from the usual Banana-Q Php 6 only, others put it.

Aside from the catchy phrase written on a homemade signage, there seems to be no other indication of what makes the ubiquitous snack unique.

In another post that made the rounds on Facebook for some time, a man from Manila who got bored with the usual banana que came up with an ingenious version of the candied plantain.

A store located along P. Noval behind UST Manila is known to offer his version of the turon. The finger-size, lumpia-wrapped bananas are fried in brown sugar, but the ingredient that lies unknown is the type of drink laced in it before serving. It is also sprinkled with sesame seeds and people go gaga over it.

The genius behind this innovation is known as Mang Tootz, a man fondly loved by thomasians in other folks in the neighborhood. Charmingly cool, he’s a character jolted from time-space out of the Jeproks-Asin era. Thus, making sense of how his personality emanates from his version of turon. No homemade signages or fancy social media. Just pure imagination. After all, how could you sell such a common fruit like bananas?
