Unemployed OFW in UAE feeds stray cats

An overseas Filipino worker in the UAE who has been unemployed for the past eight months proved that there are no excuses when it comes to doing good causes.

According to a Khaleej Times article by Sarwat Nasir, 30-year-old OFW Jonathan Sibol used to work in sales but lost his job last year. Back in 2015, he started spending Dh1,000 or around P14,000 out of his own pocket every month to buy food for stray cats.

However, when he became unemployed, he could no longer shell out that much money so his friends and other residents decided to help him so that he could continue feeding his furry feline friends.

Sibol goes to Al Falah and near Medeor Hospital every day to feed more than 40 stray cats, but he said that he used to feed more when he still had his job.

He added that his main objective in feeding stray cats is “to show the community that animals shouldn’t be forgotten no matter how tough circumstances get.”

“In 2015, I started buying cat food, milk, water and other things they needed with my own money, but sadly I’ve been jobless for the past eight months. Despite this, I am very thankful that some of my friends are helping me out – they donate cat food so I can keep feeding the cats every day,” Khaleej Times quoted Sibol as saying.

He also said that he wants to show other people that financial constraints should not be a hindrance to helping others.

He added: “When I look into the eyes of the cats, I do not see an animal, I see a living being. I see a friend and a soul. I believe all living things here are equal and we all deserve to live. Feeding them is an honor for me. I feel happy [with what I do].”
