All Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) or their beneficiaries—spouses, children, siblings, or parents—are invited to a free one-day summit that will provide tools on how to become ‘financially smart’.

Set on November 21 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, the summit with the theme “OFW: Perang Pinaghirapan, Palaguin” will delve on topics that shall guide OFWs and their families towards financial literacy.

“We all know a story about an OFW who, after years of toiling abroad, comes home with little or no savings. We want these tragic stories to end and want happier endings for all our OFWs,” Senator Cynthia Villar told Manila Standard.

Experts on different subjects such as financial literacy, business start-ups, franchising and career development program will speak at the event.

“This summit will provide the tools that will make our OFWs financially-smart. We have lined up experts to teach financial literacy and to share pointers on investment and starting a business. Lack of financial literacy is one of the reasons why Filipinos, including many OFW households, cannot escape poverty. We want to help address this problem,” she added.

Successful entrepreneurs will also speak during the event to share their experiences and inspire OFWs to wisely spend their finances.

Moreover, representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) will also be present in the summit to shed light to issues concerning all OFWs.

The registration for the summit is free. OFWs or beneficiaries just have to present a photocopy of passport, proof of remittance, seaman’s book, job contract and proof of kinship to OFW such as marriage certificate or birth certificate.

Seminar attendees will also get the chance to win a house and lot, a motorcycle, a pangkabuhayan showcase, and an appliance showcase.

Online registration can also be done through http://ofwsummit2017.villarsipag.org.
