Fisherman rescued after over 20 days at sea

A 32-year-old fisherman from Negros Oriental tells his astonishing tale of survival after he battled with hunger and thirst adrift the Sulu Sea for over 20 days.

Arnel Percho recounted that he, along with other fishermen, sailed from Bayawan, Negros Oriental last September 28.

However, upon sailing across the sea, the group encountered strong winds and rough waters that toppled their pump boats. Percho, similarly, was tossed from his boat.

As he resurfaced above water, Percho recalls that no one from the group was in sight. For several days, he battled with isolation, the heat of the sun, as well as hunger and thirst.

The fisherman narrated that he survived eating only sea grass and drinking rain water.

He held onto his dilapidated pump boat for the rest of his days adrift sea waters, until a group of soldiers fishing on a boat saw and rescued him last Sunday.

The soldiers brought him to Jolo and turned him over to the Joint Task Force Sulu, according to a report by ABS-CBN News.

Percho, who fortunately made it out alive of the incident, later on called his family to inform them of his survival.
