GUIDE: How to become a teacher in UAE

A lot of Filipino teaching professionals choose to fly abroad where better career opportunities await. If you aspire to become a teacher in the UAE, here are some guidelines that can help you fulfill your dream.

The UAE follows a strict process in hiring teachers. According to the UAE Government’s website, the applicant must have a minimum qualifications of a bachelor’s degree, a four-year university degree or higher in the field in order to be qualified to teach.

This applies for both public and public school in the UAE.

Other requirements are as follows:

– A criminal clearance record
– A medical fitness report from the UAE
– Original of educational certificates
– Attested certificates in case the educator has graduated from a university outside the UAE. The certificate must be attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the country’s embassy in the UAE.

UAE TLS

In 2017, the government introduced the UAE Teachers’ Licensing System or TLS. While still in its pilot phase, TLS will serve as a teaching license across the UAE and will become a requirement for all education professionals by 2020. In order to legally work in the field of education, a UAE teacher’s license or TLS must be held.

This license is obtained by passing two set of tests such as in pedagogy and in the chosen specialization of the aspiring teacher.

Here’s a good news though, in case the applicant fails to pass the exam, the UAE system will then introduce training courses to help the applicant achieve the required standards.
