Proudly Pinoy made apps to contend in NASA competition

The Philippines is set to compete in a global competition by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with two proudly Pinoy-made mobile applications.

These mobile apps—ISDApp and Vita app—aim to heighten the country’s emergency response systems for the benefit of the locals, according to an ABS-CBN report.

The ISDApp, made by Filipino IT professionals Revbrain Martin and Jeddah Lagaspi, was developed to help local government units dispatch text alerts to fishermen about weather updates and conditions.

Meanwhile, the Vita App is an application that aims to allow phone users to communicate in times of emergencies—even without cellular signal. The app was co-created by computer science, IT, and engineering students from different schools. It also has a built-in map and a checklist.

Both mobile applications recently won in a hackathon organized by the US Embassy and the De La Salle University.

They will contend with over a hundred competitors from around the world in the upcoming NASA International Space Apps Challenge.
