Meteor shower in Dubai most visible tonight

Who said a night out should burn a hole in your pocket? Tonight, all you have to do is go out and look up the sky and let the wonders of nature amaze you.

The 2018 Perseid Meteor Shower is expected to peak tonight, August 12, all the way to the morning of August 13 with 60 to 70 meteors showing up per hour. In some cases, however, meteor showers produce 150 to 200 meteors per hour.

This year, astronomers predict that the night of August 12 will be “moonless” meaning the meteor shower will be more visible to stargazers.

If you have extra budget, the Dubai Astronomy Group will also hold an event where stargazers can experience the Perseid Meteor Shower to the next level.

Upon payment of the registration fee, stargazers will be given the opportunity to attend a presentation on meteor showers and a telescopic view of the meteor shower as it happens. They will also be allowed to look at other celestial objects such as the Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, stars, globular clusters, and nebula.

The event will happen tonight from 10pm to 4am, at Al Quadra in Dubai.

Last year, another meteor shower was seen in Dubai. Among those who witnessed the natural event was His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
