PH’s 10th richest man Ramon Ang shares his No. 1 success secret to FEU grads

Well-known business magnate Ramon Ang recalled his experiences as a young student in Far Eastern University that molded him to the person he is today during his commencement address before the FEU Class of 2018.

“Looking back, being a working student helped me become more equipped to deal with people from all walks of life,” shared by the 10th richest Filipino in 2017 Forbes Asia’s list.

Ang, in hindsight, said that the power to discern other people’s thoughts is by far one of the most valuable skills he learned from his alma mater, which he was able to effectively apply in business.

“One of the reasons for my accomplishments is because of my ability to read people and situations. I am able to adapt. I make tough decisions based on gut instinct,” he explained.

He encouraged the fresh graduates to be proud of their university, as it has produced some of the country’s most successful people.

“Far Eastern University has produced the best and the brightest graduates: Supreme Court Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban, Henry Sy of the SM, Lucio Tan of PAL, Alfonso Yuchengco of RCBC, and Ramon Sy of Asia United Bank. FEU has competed and can compete with the best and brightest of graduates from UP, Ateneo, La Salle, Harvard even,” he said.

Ang, who was recently conferred the degree of Doctor of Business Engineering Honoris Causa by FEU, shared during his speech the seven life hacks in handling people, be it about a prospect business deals or and expanding social networks.

  • Be a man of your word.
  • Know how to keep a secret.
  • Work harder than anybody else.
  • Be decisive.
  • Be a risk taker.
  • Nothing is impossible.
  • Believe in a bigger purpose.

Keeping these principles in mind, he said, as people enhance their ability to understand and read others are perfect ingredients to be successful in life.

Ang, who is a mechanical engineering graduate of FEU, is one of the biggest and wealthiest business magnate in the Philippines. He is currently the vice chairman, president, and COO of San Miguel Corporation, the biggest conglomerate in the Philippines.
