The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) is set to launch an amnesty program for expats overstaying in the UAE.
Here are some of the things you must know about the program.
What is it called?
Brigadier Saeed Rakan Al Rashdi, Acting Director-General of Foreigners Affairs and Ports Department at FAIC, said that the initiative, is dubbed as the “Protect Yourself by Modifying your Status” campaign.
What is it for?
The program seeks to promote UAE’s reputation as a global hub for top talents, support overall investment, reinforce the UAE’s moral value system for future generations, raise the productivity of the national economy, and promote social cohesion, which will achieve the happiness of citizens and residents and improve the UAE’s standard of living.
How does it work?
It aims to allow visa violators to leave the country without paying any fees or fines or change their status while paying nominal fees. The initiative will also cater to those who were able to enter the country illegally.
When will it happen?
UAE’s three-month amnesty program for visa violators is set to begin on August 1.
Any similar event in the past?
UAE’s visa amnesty program in 2013, which ran for two months, catered to some 62,000 visa violators.
