Duterte to relocate 6 gov’t agencies to Clark to decongest Metro Manila

President Rodrigo Duterte intends to release an administrative order that will relocate six government agencies to New Clark City (NCC) to decongest Metro Manila.

Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and chief executive officer Vivencio Dizon refused to name the agencies that will be moved to Clark but said that “several will… be involved in infrastructure development, disaster preparedness and disaster response and management”.

“Later on, there will be other government agencies. We will know what those agencies are and how many once the administrative order is final and has been signed by the president,” Dizon said.

Last year, five government departments, the Departments of Science and Technology, Justice, Environment and Natural Resources, the Office of Civil Defense and the Climate Change Commission, were tapped to relocate to NCC.

The move is part of the government’s plan to make the country more resilient in cases of natural disasters.

The first phase of the NCC is expected to be completed by 2022 while the construction of the railway that will connect Manila and Clark is slated to begin by late 2018.
