Donor pays Dh500,000 hospital bill of Filipino baby in Sharjah hospital

An anonymous donor paid for the Dh500,000 hospital bill of a Filipino infant born extremely premature in Sharjah,  reported Gulf News.

Baby Ethan has been in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of University Hospital Sharjah since October 2017.

He was born extremely premature, only 23 weeks into his gestation period and weighing only 650 grams, the report said.

The infant was also diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a chronic lung disease common among extremely premature babies.

The hospital bills of baby Ethan reached more than half a million dirhams (Php7,084,000 approx.).

Ethan’s parents, Charmyl and Romeo Meneses, were elated upon learning about the anonymous donor.

“When I learnt about it, I couldn’t help but cry out of amazement and gratitude because I know it is God who made it possible. I went to church right after work that day to thank God for the miracle He sent our way!,” Charmyl told Gulf News as saying.

“This is so overwhelming! The hospital told us that someone who did not want to be named paid the bills in both hospitals,” Romeo added.

The anonymous donor, who read Ethan’s story on Gulf News, also promised to pay for the hospital bills until Ethan is discharged.

Charmyl thanked the donor for his kindness and generosity.

“I would like to thank the generous donor from the bottom of my heart for his kindness and generosity. I pray that God would bless him exceedingly. To everyone else who rallied support for our son, thank you,” she said.

The infant is still under observation. Despite this, doctors noted that he is now better than before and has a healthy appetite for bottled milk.
