DUBAI: Sharpen up those acting skills.

Philippine media and entertainment group, ABS-CBN will be producing television series or teleseryes played by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the networks’ top officials have disclosed.

“Binubuo pa lang yung concept. Soon as mabuo yan, we’ll ask the office to lead the auditions,” Katigbak told The Filipino Times in an interview.

Katigbak likewise disclosed that ABS-CBN is also planning to embark on a project called “Bantay Kabayan,” patterned after its “Bantay Bata” child rescue and protection program.

In a separate interview meantime, Cory V. Vidanes, Chief Operating Office (COO) for Broadcast, said the network is looking at producing these teleseryes as a tribute to the OFWs as “modern day heroes.”

“We can only make our characters real and engaging if we do it this way. We will continue to have characters who are overseas workers… they are heroes, mga bayani sila so sila ang magbibigay ng inspirasyon,” Vidanes said. (They are heroes and they will give inspiration.)

She said OFWs may email their stories to her at [email protected]. “They can email the stories of their experiences to me and we can keep in touch with them. We will do a research and we will talk to them,” Vidanes said.

Teleseryes are popular among most Filipinos because “salamin ito ng totoong buhay.” (They are a reflection of life.)

“Filipinos see themselves in the characters portrayed and they get inspired by the roles; more than that, is the empowerment it gives, it engages them because of the empowerment that gives them the strength to carry on,” she added.
