Filipino janitor returns bag filled with P136,000 cash, other valuables

He may only be earning a minimum monthly salary but janitor Ronnie Caydan was not tempted to take a bag filled with money which is more than his salary for one whole year.

Caydan, a janitor for twenty years at the F. Bangoy International Airport in Davao, did not hesitate to return a bag containing an iPad and P136,000 on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, to its rightful owner.

The bag was hanging at the door of the airport’s toilet where he found it, reported ABS CBN News.

He immediately reported the lost bag to airport manager Erlinda Delos Reyes who rummaged in the bag to find owner’s information. The manager herself was shocked upon seeing the huge amount.

The owner turned out to be Simplicio Belisario, Jr., a businessman who arrived from Manila and went straight to the toilet.

“I forgot about my bag. Normally kasi it’s always inside my hand-carry bag, so all the while I thought it was there. I got my check-in baggage and went to the hotel, then I got a call from Erlinda,” Simplicio was quoted in the report.

When Caydan was asked about what he thought when he found it, he said, “Kahit mahirap ako, hindi ako nagdalawang isip na isauli ang pera na hindi sa akin.”

Caydan, on the other hand, is set to receive a commendation and a token.
