Actor Matt Evans has denied that he ran away from his financial obligations regarding his eight-year-old daughter with ex-partner Johnelline Hickins.
He also stressed that it would have been easy to get in touch with him and that there is no need for an arrest to happen.
“Hindi ako mahirap kausapin. Ang daming paraan para makausap ako. Hindi ko tinakbuhan yung obligasyon ko sa bata,” Evans told Pep.ph.
He said that while he constantly wants to provide support for his child, who is currently in the custody of Hickins, the current situation has been making it difficult for him to achieve his obligations.
“Nagkataon lang na apektado lahat ng kabuhayan ngayon. May lapses din ako noon kasi alam naman ng lahat na no work, no pay ako,” the actor explained.
He also noted that he also wanted to see his daughter, since the last time he saw her was when she was just 10 months old.
Last week, the actor was arrested in his home in Manila—to his surprise—due to the complaint filed by Hickins that states he failed to fulfil his child support payments.
“Nagulat po at galit na galit dahil ang tagal ko na nananahimik. Eight years na. Happily married na ako with three kids, tapos biglang may ganito na naman after eight years,” he stressed.
He has since been released on bail amounting to PHP36,000 last August 3.
Evans added that both of them have their own families, and that it is not fair for Hickins to make this move to ruin his now quiet life after eight years.
“May pamilya na rin akong binubuhay. May pamilya ka na rin sa pagkakaalam ko, pero kahit kailan, hindi kita ginugulo. Sana maging patas ka din. Sana lang tigilan na niya panggugulo sa buhay ko,” Pep.ph quoted him as saying.
He also noted that he is open to communication with his ex-partner, and stressed that he is ready to support their child in whatever way he can.
“Handa naman ako magsuporta sa abot ng makakaya ko dahil ang ugnayan namin ay sa bata na lang. Lahat naman nadadaan sa pag uusap. Nangyari na ito dati, napag-usapan na namin. Pero ginawa lang niya ulit. Wala naman ibang pupuntahan ito kundi pag uusap din,” he told Pep.ph.
