The true blue fans of the cartoon series Voltes V would know the theme song by heart as well as the identity of pilot for each part of the robot.
In the highly anticipated Voltes V revival, the search for actors who will play the five skilled pilots is ongoing including the lovable character of “Big Bert,” the pilot of the ‘Volt Panzer’ or the torso of the giant robot, GMA News reported.
Big Bert, whose full name is Daijoro Go or Robert Armstrong, has the built of a Sumo wrestler but with a gentle demeanor.
There were several heavyweight candidates who tried their hand at auditioning for the role.
But aside from having the physical attributes of the show’s gentle giant, the candidates should also be able to act and be adept with martial arts skills.
GMA Network will spearhead the revival of the Japanese cartoon and director Mark Reyes couldn’t be more proud of the talented Pinoy artists behind the project.
“People who saw the pitch tape which you haven’t seen reacts na, ‘Uy! dito ginawa ;yan?’ Sabi ko, ‘Yeah.’ And that was five years ago what more now mas magaling tayo diyan,” he said.
The other pilots are Steve Armstrong drives the Volt Cruiser or the head of the robot, Little John Armstrong handles the Volt Frigate or the legs, Mark Gordon drives the Volt Bomber or the arms, and Jamie Robinson handles the Volt Lander or the feet of Voltes V.
