Indian producer claims Oscar-winning ‘Parasite’ plagiarized his film

A famous Bollywood producer announced that he will file a case against the creators of the Oscar-winning movie Parasite for allegedly copying the plot of his film.
Tamil producer PL Thenappan, who holds the rights of the 1999 film ‘Minsara Kanna’, said that he will sue to makers of the South Korean movie with the help of an international lawyer and seek compensation from its producers.
“I will be filing a case with help from an international lawyer. They have taken the plot from my film. When they find out that some of our films have been inspired by their films, they file cases. Similarly, it is only fair for us to do the same,” Thenappan said in an interview with The News Minute.
The director of Minsara Kanna, KS Ravikumar, said that he is glad that the controversy has put his film on an international spotlight.
“I’m happy that the story has received an Oscar, even if it (Minsara Kanna) served as an inspiration. However, filing a case is up to the producer,” The News Minute quoted Ravikumar as saying.
Paraite, directed by renowned South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho, made history for becoming the first foreign language film to bag the Best Picture recognition at the 92nd Academy Awards. It also won Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Film awards.
