Parasite makes history at Oscars 2020

South Korean film “Parasite” swept the 92nd Academy Awards with its multiple accolades, including the Best Picture recognition—making history as the very first non-English speaking film to win the coveted award.
This movie of renowned director Bong Joo-Ho scored four awards in this year’s Oscar—including Best International Feature Film, Best Director, the Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture.
Parasite—a film about a poor family working for a rich one—made history as the very first film from a South Korean director as well as the very first film with an entire Asian cast to nab Best Picture at the Oscars—beating Joker, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Marriage Story, Little Women, 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Jojo Rabbit.
The film’s producer Kwak Sin Ae said in her speech that the win is a big deal for South Korea and Asia. “I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now,” she said via translator.
For the Best Director award, Bong Joon Ho also bested veteran directors like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino for The Irishman and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, respectively.
Aside from receiving Oscars, Parasite also nabbed 180 other awards, including accolades from Screen Actors Guild Awards, Golden Globe Awards, British Academy Film Awards, and Palme d’Or, among others.
