Renowned fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier quits after 50 years

Jean-Paul Gaultier, a prominent designer known for always pushing boundaries in fashion, has announced that after half a century, he will no longer design clothes.
Gaultier announced on Twitter that while his high-end fashion and perfume business will continue, he will no longer create garments. He added that his haute couture show on January 22, 2020 at Paris Fashion Week was his last.
The designer founded his eponymous fashion label of his namesake in 1982, where he showcased his bold flair worldwide, blurring the lines between the clothing of both men and women. His provocative sense of style has garnered praise as well as criticisms from other experts in the industry. He is best known for putting Madonna in a conical bra, and for producing fashion wear inspired by cigarettes.
Gaultier also served as the creative director for Hermès womenswear from 2003 to 2010, as well as co-presented hit cabaret show based on his life story called Fashion Freak Show in 2018.
Back in 2015, Gaultier has stopped designing general clothes and instead focused on haute couture, wherein he created customized and highly specialized garments that only the world’s wealthiest people can afford.
The designer added that while he will no longer design clothes, he will still be visible in the industry, and he will focus on other areas of fashion that is yet to be revealed.
