Pokwang slams early removal of ‘Culion’, ‘Mindanao’ in cinemas

Comedian and Kapamilya actress Pokwang or Marietta Subong in real life shared her frustrations over some movie houses pulling out Culion and Mindanao because of their lackluster performance in the box office .

Pokwang, however, is part of another film Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity led by Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza.

“Nakakalungkot naman ang asal ng karamihan ng sinehan sa ‘Pinas!! ‘Wag naman tayo puro sa pera lang kasi di naman natin madadala sa hukay yan,” Pokwang said.

The actress then added that there should be a dialogue among Metro Manila Film Festival organizers and movie producers in order to stay longer in cinemas.

“Tao po… MMDA Head Office, magkaroon sana kayo ng dialogue with mga sinehan or agreement na sana yung mga pelikulang kagaya ng Culion at Mindanao ay bigyang prioridad din at wag alisin agad sa sinehan para lang mas kumita kayo,” she added.

Pokwang said that movies that talk about history should not be removed immediately based on their box office performance.

“Wag nyong alisin at burahin sa isipan ng henerasyon ngayon ang kwento ng ating lahi! History yan, ika nga, ano ba kayo???” “ she added.

The ‘first day-last day’ system has been a practice for years for some movie houses on films that do not perform on its first day as it allots more cinemas for blockbuster hits.
