Richard Gutierrez thought of migrating, too

Richard Gutierrez had come to a point when he wanted to migrate to another country, just like what his father Eddie did decades ago.

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s Tonight with Boy Abunda, Gutierrez said the thought of migrating came about three or four years ago when his showbiz career started slowing down, transitioning from GMA to TV 5 and then to ABS-CBN.

“I was about to live in a different country. Nag-plano na ko to start a new life like you know, my dad did that. My dad walked away and started a different life, and I asked myself maybe I could do the same,” he said.

Despite his flourishing career in the Philippines, Eddie Gutierrez moved to the US together with his family with a hope of greener pasture. His daughter, Ruffa Gutierrez, had earlier recalled life in the US was not exactly a bed of roses as Eddie, have had to sell pots to make ends meet.

“There were so many struggles when my dad decided to go to the States. He tried to live a normal life there and my mom was left behind here. That was tough and then my mom followed,” Richard recalled.

“Eventually, we started living in the States for a while and it was there where our family became whole again. I think throughout the years, you’ll get to realize that the more your family surpass those challenges, the closer you’ll become,” he added.

When Abunda asked the younger Gutierrez what made him think of staying in the Philippines, Richard replied, “My real destiny is to be here and when opportunities came, I grabbed them and sunod-sunod na.”

Gutierrez is one of the lead actors in the new movie, “Unbreakable” together with Bea Alonzo and Angelica Panganiban.
