John Lloyd Cruz remarks ‘Culion’ teaser as ‘preemptive’

Many Filipino movie fans thought actor John Lloyd Cruz has made a huge showbiz comeback following the release of the teaser for 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Culion.”

Netizens reactions were all over social media that the actor had to clarify his role in the film.

Cruz told ANCX he was wary of misleading the audience through that cameo.

“I thought including me in the teaser was preemptive. It was the opposite of what I actually requested and agreed on,” the actor added.

Film producer Mark Shandii Bacolod said John Lloyd merely had a special participation in the historical drama, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

Bacolod added it was his idea to put a clip of Cruz in the teaser.

“We, the production team, all agreed to use it. As they say, MMFF is a business, aside from it being a showcase of quality films. Kailangan, lahat ng alas mo ilabas mo na (You need to bring out your aces). That was my thinking as a producer. It worked because the teaser and the film were trending for two days,” he told the Inquirer.

The producer said their team is reaching out to the actor. “We want to clarify things with him,” Bacolod said.

Cruz had been out of the limelight for 2 years.

The actor announced an indefinite leave of absence from the showbiz industry in 2017 amid reports of links with actress Ellen Adarna.

Both reportedly welcomed a child last year.
