Miss Grand International Philippines Samantha Lo ‘recycles’ national costume

The struggle for Miss Grand International Philippines bet Samantha Lo is far from over. After her passport issue, pageant fans were quick to observe that she used her old outfit for the national costume competition.

Lo wore her Tausug-inspired creation by Edwin Uy in Venezuela, which happened to be her national costume during the Binibining Pilipinas 2019 pageant.

The designer made a few changes including the costume’s head dress.

Uy said in his Facebook account that Lo had to improvise for her national costume because she left her baggage containing her new one in Paris, France.

“She messaged me the night before she left for Venezuela asking for help for her national costume as she had no choice but to leave her new costume in Paris. She came to my shop early morning the next day to pick up the national costume and left later that day,” Uy said.

Uy also narrated some of the challenges faced by Lo while in Paris airport that made her decide to leave her luggage there.

“Sam’s luggage was left in Paris, including the new costume I made for her. The time she was sent home, Sam was being charged $2,000 for her excess baggage. She was willing to pay the amount, but the problem was they didn’t want to accept payment in US dollars and that time, all money changers in the airport were already closed. She was left with no choice but to leave some of her things there,” he said.

On his Facebook post, the designer showed the original national costume he had made for her. The designer however commended Lo’s performance on stage.

Miss Grand International coronation night is on October 25. The Philippines has yet to win a Miss Grand International crown. (TN)
