Award-winning director Erik Matti has been vocal that he wants the role of Pinay super heroine “Darna” to go to Nadine Lustre because of her physique and Filipina beauty.
He revealed his choice when Liza Soberano backed out from the project because of a finger injury.
But Star Cinema has decided to give the role to a newcomer Jane De Leon who has to undergo extreme training and workshops to fit the role.
In an interview, Matti said that Star Cinema could’ve chosen De Leon because she is new.
“I know Jane. Maganda ‘yung choice sa kanya kasi parang girl-next-door. Very fresh,” Matti told ABS-CBN News.
Matti said he wishes the new director Jerrold Tarog and ABS-CBN all the best in doing the movie. Matti quit the project due to “creative differences.”
Matti first took the project in 2016 and offered it to Angel Locsin. Angel backed out due to spine injury. She was later on replaced by Liza Soberano.
“Embrace it. It’s not an easy role, but she needs to embrace it because it’s going to bring her to greater heights as an actress,” Matti told De Leon. (TN)
