Kapuso star Kyline Alcantra has admitted she had suffered from acne breakouts, sharing in an Instagram post, how her skin problem started.
“Yes, this happened to me. It started March last year, it started with one zit, and then it became two until I can’t count them anymore. Last quarter of last year, it got really worst—as in, they spread in my both cheeks,” Alcantara said.
She added that the acne breakout had a big impact on her self-esteem. She was one of the most sought-after Kapuso actresses last year.
“Imagine people are always expecting you to be at your best, to look perfect, to look like the polished girl that they always see on TV and magazines, but you can’t even look at yourself in the mirror,” she added.
And there was nothing Alcantara could do but cry.
“There were times before na habang nag-aayos ako for showbiz commitment na bigla na lang ako naiiyak because at the back of my head (I was saying), ‘how am I gonna face them?,” she said.
Alcantara tried to resolve her problem through make-ups like concealers, but this didn’t work for her. Until she consulted a dermatologist to help her out.
“One day, I consulted a specialist to help me with my condition and there she told me to stop all the things na ginagawa ko with my face. She told me na less is more. She told me na factor kung bakit ako nagkaroon ng breakouts were: puberty that affects my hormones and I have a very sensitive skin na nagre-react differently from the products that I used,” she said.
Now with her skin is back to normal, Alcantara told her fans to stop stressing themselves and embrace their identities.
“Don’t stress yourself over something to be perfect because it will not come. Accept your uniqueness and use it to your own advantage and represent yourself proudly thru it,” she explained.
