DSWD says Claudine Barretto may ‘not be allowed’ to adopt a new child

Veteran actress Claudine Barretto recently surprised netizens with her latest Instagram post introducing ‘Noah Joaquin’, her newly adopted child.

“I am now complete as a mother. I’m so blessed beyond words,” Claudine wrote on her IG account.

Pep.ph has found out that Claudine’s adoption may be surrounded by legal issues.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) revealed that only Sabina, Claudine’s first adopted child, was registered to them.

The other two, 4-year-old Quia and Noah Joaquin have no records in the DSWD registry.

“Per DSWD, the only legal adoption on record of Claudine is Sabina. All non-relative adoption petitions have to be processed thru the regional office before filing in court,” a legal counsel from the DSWD told Pep.ph.

The DSWD said that Claudine could no longer be qualified as a parent for adoption if she had already filed an annulment case against estranged husband Raymart Santiago.

“In case na may ongoing annulment, usually, hindi pumapayag ang DSWD na magbigay ng consent to adopt dahil hindi stable ang relationship ng mag-asawa,” the DSWD lawyer said.

Claudine has yet to comment on the legal issues hounding her adopted children.
