K-pop star Seungri in hot water for gambling charges

A K-pop star is facing investigation on charges of overseas gambling.

Seungri, a former member of popular K-pop boy band BIGBANG, and Yang Hyun-suk, former chief of the band’s music label, were booked by the police earlier this month for allegedly violating the country’s Foreign Exchange Transaction Act, an act that prohibits gambling in a foreign country and securing gambling money.

Cable network JTBC has reported that Yang and Seungri frequently gambled at hotel casinos in Las Vegas and bet millions of dollars.

Yang is the former CEO of YG Entertainment.

The two will be summoned for separate interrogations in the coming days, police said.

After searching the headquarters of YG Entertainment in western Seoul on Aug. 17, the police are investigating whether Yang misappropriated corporate funds to finance his overseas gambling.

A former member of the popular boy band Seo Taiji and Boys, Yang stepped down as the CEO of YG in June after YG artists got implicated in drug charges.
