‘John Denver Trending’ wins big at 15th Cinemalaya Awards

A film about how a viral video of a Grade 8 student changed his family life in Antique captured the judges’ hearts at the 15th Cinemalaya awards.

‘John Denver Trending’ won the ‘Best Film’ award in the biggest independent film festival in the country.

The movie’s lead star, 15 year-old Jansen Magpusao also received the Best Actor award.

The film also bagged other major awards like Best Cinematography, Best Original Musical Score, Best Editing, NETPAC Award.

Veteran actress Ruby Ruiz bagged the ‘Best Actress’ award for her outstanding portrayal ‘Iska’.

This is Ruiz’s first ever lead role after forty years in the industry.

The Theodore Boborol film also won ‘Best Screenplay’.

A film about two young men in quest for stardom and popularity but encountered a twist of fate or ‘F***bois’ gave Eduardo Roy Jr. his second ‘Best Director’ award.

Veteran actor Ricky Davao on the other hand received the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award for his performance on the same film.
