Bella Hadid’s IG post receives backlash from netizens in UAE, Saudi

Photographs of model Bella Hadid have been taken off store shelves of UAE’s largest shopping mall because of a controversial photo of her boot, The National reported.

Hadid posted in her Instagram account a photo of her boot that appeared like she was about to kick airplanes carrying the flag of UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The 22-year-old model said it was an honest mistake and had issued an apology.

The Dubai Mall, which was reportedly inundated by comments on the issue, posted a statement on Twitter.

“We ensure you that our nation and region’s cultural sensitivities are respected. We have brought the matter to the attention of the retailers concerned to take appropriate steps.”

Meanwhile, French label Dior has taken down posters of the model.

The Mall of the Emirates confirmed the cancellation of an event with Dior.

“Hello we confirm that the event has been cancelled. A recent incident with a model for one of the brands at Mall of the Emirates is in no way associated with the mall, and does not reflect our values.”

Hadid has been described as one of the world’s most sought after model and has been connected with high-end brands such as Michael Kors, Dior Beauty, and Bulgari.
