Direk Joey Reyes calls Eddie Garcia incident ‘wake up call’

Seasoned director Joey Reyes took his appeal to social media, asking for an ‘efficient’ workplace during tapings and shootings following the incident involving veteran actor Eddie Garcia.

Reyes began his post by acknowledging Garcia’s age and his contribution to Philippine showbiz.

“I am sad. I am angry. Even at 90 years of age, Eddie Garcia took pride in taking care of his health, remaining useful & exemplary in his profession & unselfish to his peers,” Reyes said.

The director even called the actor ‘immortals in the world of disposables’.

“He is a living treasure together with Gloria Romero, Anita Linda, Gina Pareño & so many others who have proven that talent rather than looks is paramount to artistry & not mere celebrity. They are immortals in a business of disposables,” he said.

Reyes then called on to film outfits and the movie industry to be more efficient to avoid another incident like Garcia.

“These tragic turns of events SHOULD be a wake up call to all especially those responsible for the everyday mechanics of running a film shoot or tv taping. Training, discipline & dedication to efficiency not merely getting the work done affects everybody on the set,” Reyes added.

Garcia remains to be in ‘coma’ and in critical condition.
