Mariel Rodriguez defends wearing hijab during Eid Al Fitr

One netizen questioned Kapamilya TV host Mariel Rodriguez for wearing a hijab during Eid Al Fitr.

It all started when Rodriguez posted a photo of herself and her daughter Isabella on Instagram wearing hijabs while inside a mosque.

“Eid Mubarak to our brothers and sisters in Islam,” she captioned the photo dated June 4.

However, one netizen named Amarrah asked Rodriguez if she really knows the significance of wearing a hijab.

Amarrah went on to tell Rodriguez that a hijab is not a costume that being a Muslim is sacred.

“Alam nyo po ba kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng [pagsusuot] niyo ng hijab? Or ginagawa nyo lang po itong isang costume para ipakita sa publiko?” the netizen said.

“Kung isa kang Muslim magpaka-Muslim ka,” she added.

However, Rodriguez, who is a Catholic, defended her self saying that she decided to wear the hijab in support of her husband Robin Padilla, who is a Muslim.

“No. I am not a Muslim. I am a Catholic. I was born a Catholic and I still am. But I respect my husband’s religion therefore kasama niyo ako sa pag gugunita ng Eid Al Fitr kaya bumati kami ng anak ko ng Eid Mubarak sa lahat ng mga kapatid namin sa Islam,” she said.

She said that there is nothing with what she did explaining that they were inside a mosque and it ws the proper attire inside.

“Nasa loob kami ng mosque. Diba yan ang tamang kasuotan sa loob ng mosque?” said Rodriguez. “Diba dapat naka hijab sa loob ng mosque?”
