VIRAL: Bb. Pilipinas candidate’s costume woven by inmates

The candidates of the upcoming Binibining Pilipinas 2019 made Filipino pageant fans excited after revealing their chosen national costumes, which paid tribute to the country’s heritage.

One particular outfit caught the attention of netizens because of its incredible backstory.

Emma Mary Tiglao, from Pampanga, chose to wear a modern Filipiniana terno designed by Kapampangan designer Rich Sabinian.

The costume was made with a white woven material decorated with gold embellishments, and Tiglao also decided to accessorize the look with a golden headpiece.

Days after the official portraits of the 40 candidates in their national costumes were released, BJMP Angeles District Jail revealed on Facebook that the main material used in Tiglao’s outfit was made by the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) resident basket weavers of Angeles District Jail Male Dorm.

As seen in the photos, Tiglao even visited the prison and the inmates to see the work they have done for her national costume.

“Thank you Ms. Emma and Sir Rich for entrusting this creation to the skillful hands of our PDLs (Persons Deprived of Liberty), truly a Kapampangan pride. “Kapampangan ku, Pagmaragul ku!” BJMP Angeles District Jail wrote on Facebook.

Netizens also flooded the comments section commending the inmates for a job well done. They also praised Tiglao for giving the inmates a chance to showcase their skills through her costume.

The National Costume Show wherein the girls will show off their costumes in front of a live audience will be on May 29 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

On the other hand, the much-awaited coronation night will take place on June 9 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Binibining Pilipinas 2018 queens, including Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, will be passing on their titles to their respective successors at the end of the event.

The six titles up for grabs are Miss Universe Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas-International, Binibining Pilipinas-Intercontinental, Binibining Pilipinas-Globe, Binibining Pilipinas-Supranational, and Binibining Pilipinas-Grand International.
