Nadine Lustre leads winners of FAMAS 2019

Actress Nadine Lustre was hailed as one of the winners at the 67th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards held at the Meralco Theater Sunday.

Lustre was nominated among 9 other actress for the award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, which she eventually won for her performance in “Never Not Love You.”

During her speech, Lustre opened up about the struggles she encountered during the past years.

“October 2017 may malaking bagyo na dumating sa buhay ko, sobrang laki ng damage na ginawa sa buhay ko. Ilang beses ko din po gustong umatras. Kahit po nandun ako sa lowest point ng buhay ko, naitawid ko po with flying colors,” she said.

Lustre was referring to the death of her younger brother Isaiah who committed suicide inside their house in Quezon City on October 7, 2017.

Since then, Lustre admitted that she too has been struggling with depression and anxiety.

Aside from Lustre, other big winners of the event include Eddie Garcia and Victor Neri who tied for the Best Actor Award for their roles in “ML” and “A Short History of a Few Bad Things”, respectively; as well as Joem Bascon and Adrienne Vergara who won the awards for best supporting roles.

The film “Gusto Kita With All My Hypothalamus” also won some of the major awards, including best picture, and best director and best original screenplay for Dwein Baltazar.

The FAMAS is considered as the Filipino counterpart of Hollywood’s Academy Awards and seen as one of the highest honors in the Philippine film industry.
