Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray said that she is willing to audition to bag the role of the iconic Filipina superheroine Darna on the big screen.

During her press conference on April 13 at the Novotel Hotel in Cubao, Gray was asked by PEP.ph if she interested in becoming an actress aside from being a beauty queen.

“Am I open for acting? Yes, I’m open for acting. I’m open to any opportunity that may come my way. Acting is a field that I have not yet had any experience in but I’m a very eager learner,” she was quoted as saying.

She was also asked if she is willing to replace Liza Soberano and portray the modern version of Darna, to which the Filipino-Australian beauty queen answered: “As for auditioning for a certain role, I would very much be open to it.”

It can be recalled that Soberano backed out of the said movie project due to a medical condition.

However, Gray said that as of now, she is busy doing several charity works as part of her duties as Miss Universe.

Gray’s fellow Miss Universe winner Pia Wurtzbach has also previously expressed her interest in playing Darna.

“Kung papalarin na ibibigay sa akin ‘yung role na Darna, tatanggapin ko. I will work hard, I will train, I will attend workshops. Ibibigay ko lahat ng lakas ko. But, of course, it’s ABS-CBN’s decision, in the end, to see who is the perfect fit to play the role,” Wurtzbach said.

Gray and Wurtzbach have both appeared in some online polls to know who are the top fan choices to be the next Darna.

Other celebrities who fans would love to see as Darna include Nadine Lustre, Maja Salvador, Yassi Pressman, Jessy Mendiola, and Kathryn Bernardo.

As of now, Star Cinema is looking for another actress who can portray Darna.
