People say that imitation is the highest form of flattery but fans of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray were not pleased when China’s representative to the Miss Eco International pageant seemingly copied the Filipino-Australian beauty queen.
During the evening gown competition of the pageant’s coronation held in Egypt last week, China’s walked down the runway wearing a stunning red gown, but pageant fans can’t help but point out that it looks similar to Gray’s now-iconic lava gown during the Miss Universe pageant.
From the gown’s thigh high slit and back details, to the walk and projection, fans said that Miss China imitated Gray’s Miss Universe performance.
Established in 2015, Miss Eco International is a relatively new international beauty pageant that promotes sustainable tourism and environmental protection. Over 60 countries participated in this year’s edition.
The Philippines’ representative to the Miss Eco International 2019 pageant, Maureen Montagne, was unable to secure a back-to-back win for the country, but she still made her countrymen proud nonetheless after bagging first runner-up.
Moreover, this isn’t the first time that an international beauty pageant candidate has been accused of copying Gray.
It can be recalled that Ngan Anh Le Au, Vietnam’s representative to the 47th Miss Intercontinental created an online buzz after she allegedly copied Catriona Gray’s Mayon Volcano-inspired dress and signature “lava walk”.
Miss Vietnam’s wardrobe choices during the pre-pageant events of the Miss Intercontinental pageant were also said to have been copied from Gray.
Gray has not made any statements regarding candidates imitating her wardrobe and signature walk.
