Kathryn Bernardo to turn down offer if she’ll be asked to play “Darna”

Fans of Kathryn Bernardo would have to stop hoping that she will be the next Darna as the actress has already clarified that the said role is not for her.

In an interview with PEP.ph, Bernardo said that there is so much to consider when choosing the right actress to play Darna and that she doesn’t see herself donning the heroine’s iconic costume and giving life to the role on the big screen.

“It’s not for me,” Bernardo said. Personally, Darna is such an iconic role. Alam mo, dream lahat ng babae siguro na maging si Darna, pero, siguro, it’s not for me kasi hindi porke’t gusto mo yung role, puwede siya sa iyo, e.”

She added that her youthful features would not give justice to Darna.

“For me, may binabagayan siya, and yung nai-imagine, napipiktyuran ko as Darna is someone who’s a bit older than me. Someone na parang mas woman. Woman na talaga,” she said.

Bernardo made such comments after her fellow actress Liza Soberano backed out from the said film.

Soberano said that she can no longer play Darna because of a severe finger injury and Bernardo said that she can understand what her fellow actress is going through.

Bernardo has also been given action-driven roles in the past and she said that playing physically demanding characters is not a joke.

“Alam mo, yung nangyari kay Liza, sobrang totoo yun,” she said.

“Kasi kapag kami po sa fight scenes, kunwari madadala ka na sa eksena, so minsan hindi mo na maaalalayan.

“And lalo na sa amin sa taping, hindi rin naman kami binigyan ng, as in, enough time to train para super maging comfortable kasi taon yun, e.

“So, yes, like yun sa La Luna Sangre (her now-defunct television series with Daniel Padilla), ang dami mong pasa, ang dami mo talagang sugat. Hindi mo maiiwasan,” she added.

Bernardo said that she was not able to sustain any injuries on set but she got a few bruises.

“Pasa-pasa. Yun lang naman. Buti walang pilay, walang injuries and all, pero prone talaga, so kailangan talaga mag-ingat.

“And super hirap talaga gumawa ng action film o action teleserye. Ibang hirap siya, ibang level siya nung na-experience ko siya.

“Kaya mas bumilib ako mas lalo kay Ate Angel kasi siya yung kilala sa ganito, e. Hindi siya joke,” she said.

When asked about her personal choice on who should play Darna, Bernardo said that actress Angel Locsin is truly the one who is perfect for that role.

“Kung tatanungin nila kung sino yung perfect for the next role, I don’t know. Kahit ako, iniisip ko, sino pa ba yung puwede after Ate Angel?

“And hindi ko alam kung sino, so whoever man mapili for the role, kailangan talaga sobrang-sobra paghandaan. Bigyan ng maraming training kasi hindi biro ang Darna,” she said.

Prior to Soberano, Locsin was originally chosen to play Darna but she backed out due to her spinal injury.

Nevertheless, Bernardo expressed her support to whoever will be chosen to play Darna.

“Kung sino man ang next, she’ll have my full support as a fan of Darna.

“Siya nagre-represent ng woman empowerment sa atin and yeah, we’ll support her kung sino man siya.

“We’ll see,” she said.
