DICT to investigate how Jim Paredes’ video leaked online

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said on Wednesday that they are ready to uncover how veteran singer Jim Paredes’ private video got released online.

DICT Secretary Eliseo Rio Jr. said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay media forum in Malate, Manila that whoever uploaded and leaked the explicit video, which has since went viral, will face legal charges for invading the singer’s privacy.

“You cannot post a private video in a public platform. That is prohibited under the law,” Rio said.

However, DICT Assistant Secretary Allan Cabanlong, head of the agency’s cyber security bureau, said that the singer has not yet filed a formal complaint with them.

Cabanlong added that Paredes could also seek the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The PNP has earlier said that they are also ready to investigate the viral video scandal of Paredes once he filed a formal complaint with the authorities.

PNP spokesperson Col. Bernard Banac said on Tuesday that they will help Paredes by finding out who leaked the explicit video online if he would seek assistance from authorities.
