WATCH: Filipino singer wins Battle Round in “The Voice US”

Jej Vinson is proving that he got what it takes to win the 16th season of the US singing competition “The Voice”.

The 22-year-old Filipino singer, who originated from Davao City but now lives in Los Angeles, advanced to the next round of the competition after beating fellow singer Beth Griffith-Manley to Labrinth’s song “Jealous” during the Battle Rounds.

“Jej, your tone was really interesting and cool. Beth, the same thing actually. Both of your voices don’t sound like I’ve heard the song before, but you both really sounded great doing it,” said coach John Legend after the performance.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine said that he also liked the performance but preferred Vinson over his competitor.

“Yeah, this is a tough one, but I’m probably gonna go with Jej just because there were times you did upstage Beth a little bit. But Beth, the sky’s the limit for you,” Levine said.

Kelly Clarkson, the coach of the two singers, said that their voices blended well and they are both “incredibly talented”.

But it was Vinson who she chose to move on to the next round.

On the other hand, Manley was “stolen” by Legend meaning she did not get eliminated in the competition.

Vinson first left a good impression with the judges during the blind auditions wherein he brought the house down with his rendition of Drake’s “Passionfruit”.

He was able to turn the chairs of all four judges and eventually chose Clarkson to be his coach.
