Aiko slams netizen who says her boyfriend’s narco-politician tag will cost his life

Kapamilya actress Aiko Melendez cried foul over a netizen’s message to her saying that her boyfriend, Subic Mayor Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun, will get killed after he got included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s new “narco-list,” which enlists politicians who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

As seen in Melendez’s recent Instagram post, one user sent her a message which reads: “Advance condolences sa pamilya. Aiko Melendez, hanap ka ulit ng iba.”

This did not sit well with the actress who described the message as “foul.”

““Sorry that I am posting this, but this is so foul already. My boyfriend is going through something that is hard. Being accused of something he hasn’t done. It is yet to be proven. But messages like this won’t help at all,” she said.

“We ask for privacy and ask for the people to understand that we choose to keep quiet. Not because he is guilty but because he will prove his innocence in the right time and in the proper forum.

“Ang hindi ko maintindihan sa iba why is it so easy for some people to rejoice on one’s misfortune?” she added.

Melendez laso said in her post that her boyfriend’s inclusion in the said list made them fear for their lives.

She also pointed out that she is a supporter of the president and his daughter, as well as the administration’s drug war, but that doesn’t mean that she will let the accusations against Khonghun just pass by.

“I honestly fear our life, because anybody can just plant anything on us.

“I have always been a great supporter of President Duterte, especially his daughter Sara Duterte. I am in fact very vocal about it because, somehow, I can see myself in her — a fighter, a woman of logic. And ’till now, I am. I will always be in support of the President’s great cause in drugs. Kaya nga yearly nagpapa-drug test ako to be a role model.

“I am totally against drugs because I have seen how my late father’s life got ruined. But just the same in my heart and in the little name I have made in the industry, I stand by Jay Khonghun. He isn’t what you think he is,” she said.

Melendez added that this is only an alleged attempt to derail Khonghun’s campaign for the May midterm elections.

“He is just a man who declared to run for Vice Governor to serve Zambales but eto ang kapalit? Fifteen years of not being involved in any drug activity in Subic, why only now?

“Great timing. Elections. I appeal to the people to let the agencies of this list, handle everything. And also our president. But don’t be too quick to judge,” she said.

Melendez ended her post that they will not give up on their cause despite the accusations.

For his part, Khonghun has earlier denied through a Facebook Live video his involvement in the illegal drug trade by saying: “Hindi na po namin kailangan gawin na magprotekta ng droga or maging drug lord dahil hindi naman po kami ganun kahirap.”

“At isa pa po, matagal na rin pong nangongontrata ang aking ama bilang contractor bago siya pumasok sa politika. Congressman na po siya, mayor na po ako, board member na po ang kapatid ko bakit naman namin kailangan gawin yun, eh meron din naman po kaming pamilya na kailangan alagaan, protektahan,” he added.

Melendez and Khonghun first made their relationship public in March last year.
