An anonymous Instagram account that uses the moniker ‘Diet Sabya’ called out alleged ‘plagiarised fashion design’ of American designer Sherri Hill from Sabyasachi Mukherjee, a famous Indian fashion designer from Kolkata, at New York Fashion Week 2019.
In particular, the Instagrammer, who calls out ‘copycat’ designs, pointed out a wardrobe worn by Miss Universe 2019 Catriona Gray at the event. “That’s a 2016 @sabyasachiofficial rip-off. Thoughts?” the Instagrammer captioned the video that has garnered 58,762 views as of this posting.
Styled by Marquis Bias, Catriona wore a velvet cape-dress matched with a short black skirt.
According to netizens, the design of the wardrobe belongs to Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s 2016 Firdaus Couture Collection.
Both Sherri Hill and Sabyasachi have not yet released any statement about the issue.
The issue has been reported by some major dailies in India, including The Hindustan Times and The India Today.
